Engineer v Manager | www.poeticexpressions.co.uk | Poetic Expressions

A man in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted,
\"Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don\'t know where I am.\"
The woman below replied,
\"You\'re in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You\'re between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.\"
\"You must be an engineer,\" said the balloonist.
\"I am,\" replied the woman, \"How did you know?\"
\"Well,\" answered the balloonist, \"everything you told me is technically correct, but I\'ve no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I\'m still lost. Frankly, you\'ve not been much help at all. If anything, you\'ve delayed my trip.\"
The woman below responded, \"You must be in Management.\"
\"I am,\" replied the balloonist, \"but how did you know?\"
\"Well,\" said the woman, \"you don\'t know where you are or where you\'re going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you\'ve no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it\'s my fault.\"

SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) - Mobile Phone Directory

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)
Skip content

An article is currently in preparation to explain Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) measurements.

SAR values for the mobile phones from various manufacturers are listed in this section. Select a manufacturer from the left hand column of this page to see the SAR values for their models. Where there are more than 20 models listed we have arranged the phones into two lists: one in model number order, and one in order of increasing SAR value. More manufacturers and models will be added over time.

These SAR figures are the maximum values measured at the ear, in accordance with the international guidelines recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The SAR exposure limit set by these guidelines is 2.0 W/kg averaged over 10 grams of body tissue. This standard is considered to be the safe exposure limit to radio waves for all persons regardless of age or health, and it is the standard adopted in Europe, Central America (except Mexico), South and North Africa, Israel, and Pacific Asia (except Taiwan, Korea and Australia).

NOTE Other countries, for example the USA, Canada, Australia and Taiwan, adopt a different standard recommended by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), which is 1.6 W/kg averaged over 1 gram of body tissue.

FFFFOUND! | cursivebuildings

This is it. And it is important. I would like to take a moment for you, the reader/viewer/podcast or RSS subscriber, to inform you that everything beyond this point ( and by point i mean in the general grammatical syntax, the introduction if you will) Because I'm pretty sure that everything after this sentence will make any sense to anyone other than myself. In addition, i am not going to offer footnotes, references nor distinguish between the thoughts I have as a technologist, and the recent milestones i have reached in my creative process as an artist. I do not yet know if I have the courage to become the poet- but it has [poetry] given my essays and notations a certain continuity which i find helpful when organizing my work. Oh, and i should point this out; this is the other part of that story I, or maybe it's the complete answer, either or is accurate (as far as being valid statements, which does not necessarily make them true or complete) And on that note. I'm going to walk out of my studio, away from my keyboard- thank you, again for your interest, patronage and support. And I need a bike lock, END OF INTRODUCTION

52 Projects: A Not-To-Do List

A Not-To-Do List

Today is the day you start your project.

Wake up. Make your coffee. Sit down. Get to work.

Now, it should be that simple. Wake up and get to work.

But there are many distractions. Mental and otherwise.

So this is NOT a to-do list. This is a not-to-do list. You don\'t need to check anything off, because these are things YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO.

Do not check your email.
Do not go to nytimes.com.
Do not decide to organize your cd rack.
Do not turn on the television.
Do not clip your nails.
Do not stare at your bald spot in the mirror and begin to calculate how much time your hair has left.
Do not start catching up on the DVDs that have arrived from Netflix.
Do not update your Netflix queue.
Do not Google all your Exes.
Do not Google yourself.
Do not dust the house.
Do not sweep the floors.
Do not take out the trash.
Do not get sucked into the argument when your significant other starts screaming about the fact that you drank the last of the milk and even though you said you would get more you didn\'t. Just apologize, apologize, and then apologize again. (But don\'t be tempted to apologize \"for being such a horrible person\" – that is a sign that you are getting drawn into a bigger dust-up. Stay on target with your apology, explain that you have serious work to do, and get back to your project.)
Do not decide to make yourself an elaborate lunch.
Do not take a nap.
Do not change the cat litter.
Do not decide to figure out the calorie count of your recent meals.
Do not pay your bills.
Do not balance your checkbook.
Do not freak out that you have no money.
Do not go into the bathroom and give your Academy Award acceptance speech.
Do not put on Prince and party like it\'s 1999. (Well, okay, maybe ONCE, just to get you fired up about your project.)
Do not start going through your closet.
Do not decide to floss.
Do not organize your spice rack.
Do not update your address book.
Do not make a list of things to do.
Do not watch Oprah.
Do not listen to NPR.
Do not start to think you don\'t have what it takes to actually do your project.
Do not read any further on this post – caught you! Stop reading now and get to work on your project.
Do not check what time the movie is playing later.
Do not decide to send an angry email to that annoying friend who recently pissed you off.
Do not play with the cats.
Do not clip your nose hairs.
Do not start trying to organize a dinner party.
Do not start wondering if that mole that seems a little bigger than the last time you checked it might be skin cancer.
Do not start going through all the papers on your desk.
Do not make a list of all the things you have to get done at work.
Do not start thinking you are never going to finish.
Do not make a quick run to the grocery store.
Do not search for gray hairs.
Do not start fantasizing about sex.
Do not decide to make a call to your significant other to tell him or her that you don\'t think you\'ve been getting any, and that you better damn well get some tonight (you know, because that one works every time).
Do not go to IMDB to see who that actor was in that movie you saw the other night. Or what that girl from that show from way back when is doing now.
Do not start perusing your own bookshelves.
Do not organize your computer files.
Do not clean out your inbox.
Do not click into the online gossip sites.
Do not pick your nose.
Do not start reading old letters from old flames.
Do not crack open a beer.
Do not pluck your eyebrows.
Do not to give yourself a facial.
Do not start going through your photos.
Do not return your phone calls.
Do not start reading your old journal entries.
Do not start thinking about how your project is lame.
Do not scrub the tub.
Do not clean the toilet.
Do not open a bottle of wine.
Do not start wading through all the magazines you subscribe to but never read.
Do not decide to start a screenplay (unless, of course, that is your project).
Do not post to your blog.
Do not pull the ATM receipts out of your wallet and start entering withdrawals into your checkbook.
Do not get up and keep getting yourself a glass of water.
Do not refill the ice trays.
Do not do the dishes.
Do not start picking off the wax on your candle holders.
Do not start worrying about all the time you\'ve already wasted.

There are a million more things that could be on this list, but remember, it\'s not a to-do list, so it doesn\'t matter if something is missing -- you are NOT supposed to be doing these things. Just get to work on your project.

because old habits die hard

and it's 3am and I think I'm keeping my upstairs neighbor up and about because of my secondhand smoke. That and the fact that even now, after all that has happened- I feel compelled to post this video on parallel computing technology that from my POV answers/qualifies my position on legacy systems management- even though the question- which was poignant at the time, is not applicable at this time having been informed, earlier today that I am no longer involved in the project. So why go on? Because. Because this knowledge, approach and experience can be combined with let's say new information which has recently been brought to my attention earlier today as well- but in a separate time line and context all together. And i'm not going to elaborate any further (or explore these statements further) because what matters to me in the end is not the clip I'm going to embed, but picking up where I left off. Within the thermodynamics of my relationships- events shift in their relevance and focus when introduced to or observed by others. Which I may not see. But right here and now I have all that I need to go forward and that is the presence of continuity

yeah.
and now the clip

Interesting and Viable bookmark management tool for steve

Semantic Turkey :: Firefox Add-ons
Semantic Turkey allows you to separate the WHAT (people, events, organizations...any kind of thing) that you are interested in, from the WHERE (the pages that you bookmark that contain information about them).
While traditional bookmarking always ends up in tons of page which are rather difficult to organize, with ST you can define your personal domain of interest through a conceptual representation called ontology. You can then add objects to the ontology, describe them through attributive properties or connect them through relational properties, and, at the same time, keep track of (bookmark) the pages where you find information about them. These operations need not to be performed in a strict order: with very simple drag&drops, you can add new objects while you find them on the web.
The xpi of Semantic Turkey is platform independent, though it requires the Java Virtual Machine distributed from Sun, which may not be available for every OS.

Girl Talk - Hands In The Air (Fan Video)

You know that video has been the cornerstone and building block for me as visual artist and technologist. I get it, and I'm pretty good at it. I would very much like to gather friends and co-workers together to screen, review and explore the medium. I do not understand why I've consistently encounter such resistance when it comes to sharing clips with my favorite clients. This has gone on so long, this particular form of discrimination.I think the word is more than appropriate, and I invite you to call me out on this, you know who you are, but you would have to visit the blog, do you see the problem here? But since I haven't gathered all the facts yet- I accept and am prepared in future posts to apologize and offer a retraction.

Born To Be Mild Lyrics - Snog

Born To Be Mild lyrics
by Snog

My life consecrated by the Vogue year book
My style dictated by the Rick Astley look
I drive a car but I can\'t read a book
I dont eat meat except for a little bit of chook

Born to be mild
Like the first suburban child
Born to be king
Of the really boring things

My life consecrated by the Vogue year book
My style dictated by the Rick Astley look
I drive a car but I can\'t read a book
I dont eat meat except for a little bit of chook

Born to be mild
Like the first McDonald\'s child
Born to be king
Of the really boring things

My heart controlled by the share outlook
My veins a pumping with the cash I took
I cant afford the credit I book
Out upon the damage I look

Born to be mild
Like the first McDonald\'s child
Born to be king
Of the really empty things
Born to be mild
Like the first McReagen child
Born to be king
Of that overfed empty grin
Born to be mild
Like the first freemarket child
Born to be king
Of the endless buying binge

My times reflected by the pills I took
My comfort created by the conscience I shook
I can\'t believe the saftey of my tiny little nook
I won\'t leave it ever not even for a look

Best Break-up Letter Ever?
By: Staff
Updated: October 31, 2008

Boosh is never one to spread gossip like other college blogs seem to enjoy doing, but when one of our staff members received this e-mail we couldn\'t help but share it with you. Names have been changed and we omitted the University, but with how hilarious it is, it\'s probably only a matter of time before the whole story comes out. On with it:

So my friend goes to University of ####### and he received these messages from his
friend who was cheated on by his girlfriend. The first message is her
apology, the second is his response. Enjoy.

Tom,

It would be difficult for me to be any more miserable right now, I feel
like the worst person ever. First, let me start by saying that I am
truly truly sorry, and I hate myself for hurting you. Of all the people
in the whole entire world, you were honestly the last person that I
would ever want to wrong in any way.

There is no excuse at all for anything that happened, so I won\'t even
try other than to say all of us had WAY too much to drink, and I did a
stupid thing. I can handle you being pissed at me, I absolutely deserve
it, I can even handle the ugly words that were exchanged between us,
what I can\'t handle is thinking that you see me as a different person.
It is weird, the world looked funny yesterday, I couldn\'t crack a smile
if you paid me, there are songs I can\'t listen to, and I just feel
beyond crushed.

I don\'t know if you meant everything you said to me, and I am hoping that you didn\'t.
I know that I was wrong on many levels, but I am also hoping that this
is something that we can deal with. I know it sounds totally crazy and
stupid, I can\'t imagine my days without you. It is totally strange and
weird to say that, and you could say that my behavior didn\'t reflect
that, and you would be correct. I hate feeling like you hate me, and I
hate feeling like all of your friends think I am a terrible person,
because I am not. I know there is nothing I can say or do to take back
what happened. I am so sorry.

- Sarah

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for your concern. I\'ll be sure to file it away under \'L\' for
\'Long-winded diatribes from drunken whores I couldn\'t care less about\'.
You did a stupid thing huh?

No...doing long division and forgetting to carry the one is \'a stupid
thing\'; Mixing in a red Sock with a load of whites is \'a stupid thing\';
Blowing some guy in a bathroom for 45 minutes while I sit at the bar
wondering if you\'re taking so long because you ate too much raisin bran
that morning isn\'t as much a \'Stupid thing\' as it is grounds for
permanent removal from my social calendar. To be honest, I\'m not sure if

it was more amusing that you went and degraded yourself in a public
toilet not once, but twice in a 2 hour span, or that you seemed to think
that by saying \'Well, I didn\'t Fuck him\' somehow gave you a clean slate.
So forgive me if I couldn\'t care less if the world \'looked funny\' to you
yesterday. Since your World revolves around blow dryers, golden
retrievers, Prada Bags and Jelly Beans, I\'m sure it must have been most
unsettling to actually have to consider someone else\'s feelings for 24
hours straight. The good news for you is that my friends don\'t think
you\'re a terrible person, they just think you\'re the average run of the
mill cum-guzzling blonde who commands about as much respect as your
average child porn collector.

By the way, for the amount of time you claim to spend in spin class you
really must be doing something wrong to sport the thunder thighs you do.
Watching you parade around my bedroom in a thong was a little like
watching sea lions mate. Thought you might like to know.

PS. I forwarded this email to about 100 people.

Talk to you never,

Tom
